Prenatal Massage:

Benefits of Prenatal Massage

Massage therapy during pregnancy is a wonderful complementary choice for prenatal care. It is a healthy way to reduce stress and promote overall wellness during your pregnancy. Massage therapy helps relieve many of the normal discomforts experienced during pregnancy, such as low back discomfort, neck and shoulder tension, reduces stress on weight-bearing joints, and helps improve blood and lymph circulation in the body.

During The Prenatal Massage

Through the second trimester, you may prefer to lie on your back with a small, cushioned wedge placed under your knees to provide a slight elevation of your legs and help take any strain off your low back. Depending on where you are in your pregnancy, we make sure to take extra care that you are as comfortable as possible during your Prenatal Massage session. We have you in a sideline positioning with supportive, soft cushions is used to alleviate any extra strain on the lower back and pelvic areas when the pressure of massage techniques are applied. Our goal is a gentle comfortable massage session for a happy baby and happy momma.

Relief of Everyday Symptoms

Prenatal Massage for pregnant women offers a number of benefits, and it's always a good idea to discuss with your therapist any everyday symptoms you'd like to see relieved. Those might include:

Headaches: which can be relieved by massage therapy techniques that focus on the head, neck and shoulders. In addition, maintaining optimal levels of stress relief through massage reduces the chances of migraines or tension headaches by relaxing trigger points and muscle spasms.

Muscle tension created by carrying the extra baby weight of a baby can be relieved by massage therapy. Prenatal Massage Therapy can help combat fatigue, backaches, leg cramps and swelling/edema which all can be relieved through prenatal massage therapy. This helps increase the flow of lymphatic fluid, which sweeps away toxins and metabolic waste.

Massage Therapy during Labor and Delivery

Labor and Delivery can and should be the most beautiful and empowering experience in your life. Although this experience can be long and filled with many peaks and valleys with each contraction, we have found that massage therapy during labor and delivery can play a significant role in helping you through your birthing experience. Our goal is to provide you with a compassionate therapist who is nonjudgmental that can assist you and make you as comfortable as possible.

A Massage Therapist Role during Childbirth:

Provide soothing touch and massage therapy: this plays a significant role in helping to alleviate low back pain as your child begins to descend. Help relax and alleviate pressure in your hips. Gentle foot massage during each rush of contraction to help you remain as calm and relaxed as possible.

Create a relaxing environment: this helps remove you from a “mechanical operating room” feeling and into a more enjoyable setting for your birthing experience.

Suggest position changes: in effort to make you as comfortable as possible

Suggest both passive and active movements: this allows you to feel the ecstatic movement in your body. These movements also allow gravity to assist your child to stimulate the cervix to open more naturally and avoid unnecessary swiping by medical staff.

Suggest various pain coping techniques: We prefer not to use the word pain during labor but encourage you to feel the sensations with in your body. We may use guided visualization, breathing techniques, or acupressure.

Use of aromatherapy: essential oils can provide either a calming, uplifting, or shift in the entire room creating a more peaceful and enjoyable birthing experience. We enjoy using GemElixer prroducts with essential oil names as: Joy, Love, Focus, Calm, Energy, and Abundance.

Offers words of encouragement: During your birthing experience you are carrying the heavy load! We are here to help you when that load might get to be too much. We want to help you to the end.

Suggest ways to include your partner: those who are fortunate enough to have their partner present are encouraged to enjoy this amazing experience together and fall in love over again. We are also here to support them. To help increase their confidence levels and feel supported in their decision-making. Also to fill in when they need to take a break. Those who have elected to not have a partner present can benefit even more so. You don’t need to take this journey alone! We are here for you too momma. You deserve a beautiful experience too.
